Bedfordshire Model Radio Controlled Car Club

Bedfordshire Model Car Club (BedsMCC)

Bedfordshire Model Car Club (BedsMCC) is a friendly and long‑established remote‑controlled car racing club based at Bromham Village Hall. For over 10 years, we’ve welcomed drivers of all ages and abilities to race purpose‑built scale cars on our indoor track. What began as simple racing on the hall’s wooden floor has evolved into a fully equipped setup using specialised high‑grip carpet designed specifically for RC car competition.

Affiliated with the BRCA

We are proud to be affiliated with the British Radio Car Association (BRCA). As a BRCA‑affiliated club, we follow their rules, regulations, and safety standards for all racing activities and membership requirements.

Car Classes We Race

All our racing takes place on‑road, meaning the cars are designed for smooth, flat surfaces with no obstacles. We primarily focus on 1/12th scale cars, including:

  • GT12 (Grand Touring 12th Scale)
  • LMP (Le Mans Prototype)
  • MTC (Mini Touring Car)
  • 1/12th Scale Mini
  • 1/12th Scale Hot Hatch / Hotrod
  • Tamiya Trucks
  • Tamiya Touring Car
  • Tamiya M‑Chassis
  • Big Wheels! (Tamiya Lunchbox, Wild Willy 2, and similar models)

All races are non‑contact and electronically timed using digital transponders fitted inside each car. Only battery‑powered vehicles (LiPo or NiCd) are permitted. Nitro or petrol cars cannot be used due to the indoor venue and the proximity of nearby homes.

Our Track Setup

Before each race meeting, our team builds a full indoor track in the main hall using:

  • 5 rolls of specialist RC racing carpet (2m x 18m each)
  • Square pipe trunking, wooden blocks, and flexible plastic strips to form the layout
  • A timing loop placed beneath the carpet to detect each car’s transponder

This modular system allows for countless track configurations, though we follow a few consistent guidelines:

  • A main straight always runs along the same side of the hall
  • All racing is run clockwise
  • Layouts are designed to be challenging but fair for all classes

Race Meeting Format

A typical BedsMCC race meeting includes:

Three Qualifying Rounds

  • Groups of up to 6 drivers
  • 5‑minute timed runs
  • Staggered starts
  • Drivers compete against the clock to set their best run

One Final

  • Standing grid start
  • Also 5 minutes
  • The winner is the driver who completes the most laps in the shortest time

Grid positions are determined by qualifying results, based first on the number of laps completed and then on total time.

All timing is handled by specialist race‑control software linked to our under‑carpet timing loop. Each driver has a unique transponder number, allowing accurate lap counting and live race data.
